This is the best way to understand Allan Schore. He is without question a brilliant thinker/researcher whose writing is difficult to comprehend for the average clinician. In this lecture Dr. Schore is at his best, offering a very user friendly version of his complex ideas.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

In 1994 Dr. Schore published his critically acclaimed, groundbreaking book, Affect Regulation and the Origin of the Self. This seminal work laid the groundwork for a psychoneurobiological model of precisely how early attachment transactions directly impact the development of internal psychic structure, especially the right brain systems that process social, emotional, and bodily information. Drawing together interdisciplinary research and clinical data, his regulation theory outlined the links between early development and later personality organization. The book also detailed models of psychopathogenesis and the fundamental mechanisms that underlie the change process of psychotherapy.

This seminal work contributed significantly to the current paradigm shift in both science and clinical practice, one that focuses on the centrality of emotional processes and the role of the self in human function and dysfunction. Over the course of "the decade of the brain" Dr. Schore has expanded his regulation theory in 30 articles and essays in the neuroscience, psychiatry, psychoanalytic developmental psychology, attachment and trauma literatures. This collective material will soon appear in two volumes, Affect Dysregulation and Disorders of the Self and Affect Regulation and Repair of the Self.

In this course Dr. Schore will offer an overview of the four themes of these two volumes, specifically focusing upon clinical issues of psychopathogenesis and the mechanism of therapeutic change.
