Linda Chapman receives some of the highest ratings of any workshop leader we’ve ever seen! She is dynamic, very organized, and well grounded in the clinical realm, offering supervisors the latest in supervision information and practice.

A required course for all clinicians who supervise MFT interns, Ms. Chapman brings to this material a breadth of knowledge and clinical experience gained from years of supervising a wide variety of interns and trainees. She provides insights into how to build a relationship of mutual respect and learning that animates the dynamic process of supervision. This course focuses on teaching the structure and skills for effective supervision practice and explores the theoretical underpinnings of supervision through models and stages in the process.

Do different supervision methods impact skill acquisition or treatment outcomes? Supervision research is incorporated into this didactic and experiential format to expose those variables that empower the therapist being supervised and facilitate the supervisory relationship. For many years, it was assumed that a skilled clinician was able to conduct effective supervision. Yet many professionals recognized they lacked supervisory skills. Today supervision is becoming a field of study in its own right, but typically most graduate programs provide little if any instruction in the art and practice of supervision. What traits characterize the ideal supervisor? Ms. Chapman teaches participants specific approaches, concepts and techniques for intervention and discusses the professional issues of ethical and legal concerns.
