Course Information

A Salad bowl of solutions: understanding, preparing and implementing trauma treatment

Therapists often feel helpless and stuck around ways to engage and assist clients suffering from challenges such as Borderline Personality Disorder, dissociation, co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders, and underlying attachment disorders. This training will begin by offering a baseline understanding of how the brain digests experiences, how information becomes maladaptively stored, and the chemistry behind this process along with how Memory Reconsolidation helps to unlock the data. We will present several activities and interventions that balance brain chemistry and heal adversely affected areas of the brain. Evidenced based therapeutic interventions that offer efficient and effective options such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Seeking Safety along with popular models with promising research such as Schema Therapy and Positive Psychology will be presented. An outline for understanding the spectrum of dissociation along with helpful interventions such as Flash will also be provided. Presentation, discussion, handouts, experientials and client videos will be used to teach the materials
