This webinar will present information related to the normalcy needs of LGBTQ children and youth. The Preventing Sex Trafficking and Strengthening Families Act of 2014 (P.L. 113–183) changes the landscape of children and youth in foster care. For the first time, this federal law mandates that child welfare agencies, courts, and contracted providers provide foster youth with opportunities to engage in age-appropriate activities. P.L. 113–183 seeks to ensure that foster parents implement the reasonable and prudent parent standard regarding decisions related to activities and will be inclusive of LGBTQ children and youth and their needs. This webinar will raise awareness of what constitutes “normalcy” for LGBTQ children and youth, including issues related to sexual orientation, gender identity, dating and peer groups, safety, and educational protection under Title IX.
