Mary Main, PhD

Mary Main, Ph.D. received her doctorate in developmental psychology with Prof. Mary Ainsworth and is a professor in the Dept. of Psychology at UC Berkeley. Dr. Main's major contribution is the indentification (with Judith Solomon) of a new, disorganized/disoriented modality observed in Ainsworth's well-known separation and reunion procedure, the "strange situation." Also of interest to therapists is the hour-long. "Adult Attachment Interview (AAI)," devised with Carol George and Nancy Kaplan, and the coherence-based system of analysis with Ruth Goldwyn and Erik Hesse.
