Join us for a workshop on Mindfulness and Self-Compassion with internationally recognized experts Kristin Neff and Shauna Shapiro. We will explore the unique and overlapping dimensions of mindfulness and compassion, with the goal integrating both in our personal and professional lives. The heart aspects of mindfulness will be explored, with an emphasis on kind awareness of one’s present moment experience. There will also be a particular emphasis on self-compassion, given that it is often more difficult to give compassion to ourselves than others. Self-compassion involves treating ourselves kindly, like we would a close friend we cared about. Rather than making global evaluations of our selves as “good” or “bad,” self-compassion involves generating kindness toward ourselves as imperfect humans, and learning to be present with the inevitable struggles of life with greater ease. We present theory and research on mindfulness, compassion and self-compassion, which have been shown to be powerfully associated with psychological and physical well being.
Further, the role of Mindfulness, Compassion and Self-compassion in caregiving settings will be discussed, and specific practices will be taught to help integrate mindfulness an compassion into one’s personal and professional life.
