Dreaming and Awakening: 8-Day Lucid Dreaming Workshop
While dreaming, a greater level of creative freedom can be achieved by becoming lucid--in other words, by realizing that your construction of the world is not waking reality-- but is actually a dream. This program is a tour-de-force of Dr. Stephen LaBerge’s 30+ years of pioneering research since his work at Stanford University demonstrated the scientific validity of lucid dreaming. Dr. LaBerge--the leading world authority on lucid dreaming—along with psychologist and lucid dreaming expert, Dr. Kristen LaMarca, will guide you on 8 days and nights of enhancing mindfulness and lucidity in dreams and everyday life.
Suitable for all levels of experience, this program draws from Western science and Tibetan Buddhist dream yoga to teach the most effective and cutting edge techniques for developing a lucid dreaming practice. Topics include: Learning to induce, stabilize, and guide lucid dreaming; dream control; overcoming nightmares; using lucid dreaming to foster mindfulness, psychological flexibility, and self-integration; consciousness as a model of self and world; dreaming, death, and transcendence; the science of lucid dreaming; and more.

Main Points:
-
As an innovative therapeutic tool and trainable skill, lucid dreaming holds remarkable potential to assist in a wide range of complex challenges faced by clients and therapists today.
-
By inducing and sustaining lucidity while dreaming, lucid dreamers can eliminate the waking belief systems that ordinarily restrict their choices for relating and responding to dream content. Such explicit cognizance of dreaming while dreaming can help clients establish a greater sense of safety and psychological flexibility for influencing dream content in positive, healthful ways.
-
The mental set for recognizing you are dreaming while dreaming and increased central nervous system activation are two necessary conditions for lucid dreaming.
-
Lucid dreamers can remember to execute predetermined actions and signal to the laboratory when they are lucid via psychophysiological markers unimpaired by rapid eye movement (REM) atonia. This methodology allows consciousness researchers to establish precise correlations between physiological markers and subjective reports of lucid dreaming.
-
Research has explored the efficacy of various lucid dreaming approaches to conflicts with hostile figures in nightmares, supporting that conciliatory approaches to conflict resolution are generally most conducive to positive or favorable outcomes.
