COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The cardinal rule of traditional couples therapy is “Thou Shalt Not Take Sides.” Under the guise of “winning the man’s trust” and “being even-handed,” most therapists back off telling difficult people in general, and difficult men in particular, the truth about their behaviors. Terry Real, in contrast, takes sides by perfecting the art of holding people accountable in a loving and respectful manner. And he has systemized this approach in what he terms Relational Life Therapy.

• how to substitute gaining leverage for gaining an alliance with difficult partners
• how to form a true alliance with the difficult partner(s) by precisely identifying what they are doing that is dysfunctional, the negative consequences of not changing, and the rewards of changing
